It was my first year at PeopleDoc. The CEO wanted a customer and prospect event at our offices: a talk on product innovations, followed by networking. I owned the communication and all the logistics.
A few days before the event, with invitations already sent, he asked to change the format: add demo workshops and collect customer testimonials, with no extra budget.
I rethought everything: new spaces for the workshops, a final invitation so guests could pick their sessions, testimonials filmed on a phone. Above all, I brought together R&D, Product, Presales, Services, Sales, Design and Digital to share out the roles. Teams that rarely met customers got to talk with them directly.
The event exceeded its attendance goal, and became a moment that brought people together internally as much as a customer success.
What I took from it: a constraint can become a shared project, as soon as everyone understands the goal.
